MEET THE TUBULAR TREE HOUSE BY AIBEK ALMASSOV – A groundbreaking architectural concept is finally taking shape as Kazakh architect Aibek Almassov’s tubular glass house, designed to enclose a mature fir tree at its center, moves closer to reality. The project, known as "Tree in the House," was first conceptualized in 2013 but had to wait for the right investors to bring it to life. Now, with a new partner interested in the design, construction may soon begin.
Designed as an inverted treehouse, the structure aims to offer a peaceful retreat from the chaotic urban environment. It features a fully glazed, cylindrical form that allows for panoramic views of the surrounding forest. The design emphasizes harmony between modern architecture and nature, without harming the environment.
According to Almassov, the main challenge has always been finding the right investor. “It's not difficult to build,†he said, “but we needed someone who truly believed in the vision.†Recently, a company specializing in glass and solar panels has shown interest, which could mean the project is on the verge of becoming a real architectural marvel.
The design includes four narrow ring-shaped floors connected by a spiraling white staircase that wraps around the central tree. Glazed balustrades with wooden railings ensure unobstructed views from every level. Almassov describes the experience of climbing the stairs as a journey of spiritual growth and connection with nature.
Inside, the space is minimal yet elegant, with free-standing furniture that follows the curved walls. A glass shower cubicle mirrors the building’s tubular shape, blending functionality with aesthetics. This concept echoes Almassov’s previous work, such as the "ImagineHouse," which also aimed to create a tranquil living space away from city noise.
