Degradable plastics need good support

Recently, it was reported from relevant departments in Fujian Province that the research achievements in degradable plastics in the province have solved the technical problems of incineration and composting of plastic waste, and expanded the scope of application of degradable plastics to polyethylene, polypropylene, and polystyrene. And four general-purpose plastic varieties such as polyvinyl chloride, the research level ranks first in the country.
However, an optimistic reality is that although the research and production of China's biodegradable plastics have reached a considerable scale, it has been difficult to promote the use of large areas. For example, the biodegradable plastic bag produced by Fuzhou Yaosheng Adhesive Flexible Packaging Factory was successfully researched and developed as early as 1996. Although the current annual output is 1,000 tons, it is comparable to the monthly consumption of more than 300 tons of plastic bags in some cities. Although the market potential is huge, due to lack of effective promotion, the production of degradable plastics can only be maintained at the current level.
The non-degradable plastic bags known as "white pollution" should be promoted and supported since they have found a good way to manage them. After all, everyone paddles and the ship is open.
