Some foods in prepackaged foods that are exempted from labeling nutrition labels

The "General Rules for Nutrition Labeling of Pre-packaged Foods" also stipulates some foods that can be exempted from labeling nutrition labels. Foods exempted from mandatory labeling of nutrition labels are as follows:

1. The nutrient content of foods fluctuates greatly, such as fresh foods, foods prepared and sold now;

Fresh food: refers to raw meat, raw fish, raw vegetables and fruits that are pre-packaged quantitatively, uncooked, and without adding other ingredients, such as bagged fresh (or frozen) shrimp, meat, fish or fish pieces, meat Chunks, meat stuffing, etc. In addition, dry products without other ingredients, such as dried mushrooms, fungus, dried fruits, dried vegetables, etc., and fresh eggs, etc., also belong to the scope of fresh food in this standard. However, pre-packaged quick-frozen rice products and frozen conditioned food are not exempted, such as quick-frozen dumplings, buns, dumplings, shrimp balls, etc.

Ready-to-make food: Refers to food that is prepared, sold and available for immediate consumption on site. However, food processing enterprises that focus on the production, processing, and distribution of pre-packaged food for sale in shopping malls, supermarkets, chain stores, retail stores, etc., shall be labeled with nutrition labels in accordance with the standards. The most common type of food in the supermarket is baked goods such as bread and cakes. In the case of freshly baked cakes, only the date of production or the date of packaging is required. But the content of trans fatty acids in it is unknown. If you buy pre-packaged cakes, look for those with low levels of trans fatty acids that are not fresh enough.

2. The packaging is small and cannot meet the content of the nutrition label, such as pre-packaged food with a total surface area of ≤2500px2 or a maximum surface area of ≤500px2 ;

Explanation in the "General Principles": Prepackaged foods with a total surface area of product packaging less than or equal to 2500px2 or a maximum surface area less than or equal to 500px2 are exempt from mandatory labeling of nutrition labels, but voluntary labeling of nutrition information is allowed. When the nutrition information of such small food packaging products is voluntarily marked, the text format can be used, and the reference value of nutrient ( NRV ) can be omitted . The calculation of the total surface area of the package can be measured when the product is not placed in the package, but the size occupied by the edge seal should be removed.

3. Small consumption, which contributes less to the intake of body nutrients, such as beverages, packaged drinking water, daily consumption ≤ 10g or 10mL .

Beverage and alcohol products with an alcohol content of 0.5% or more , including fermented wine and its mixed wine, distilled wine and its mixed wine, and other alcohols (such as cooking wine, etc.). In addition to water and alcohol, the above alcoholic products basically do not contain any nutrients, and nutrition labels are not required.

Packaged drinking water refers to drinking natural mineral water, drinking pure water and other drinking water. These products mainly provide water, and basically do not provide nutrients. Therefore, the mandatory labeling of nutrition labels is exempted.

Pre-packaged foods with a daily consumption of ≤ 10g or 10mL refer to foods with low consumption, which contribute little to the intake of body nutrients, or single-component condiments, including:

1. Seasoning: MSG, vinegar, etc .;

2. Sweeteners: sugar, starch sugar, pollen, table sweeteners, seasoning syrup, etc .;

3. Spices: Zanthoxylum bungeanum, bulk, chili, five-spice powder, etc .;

4. Foods with small edible ratio: tea, gum-based candy, coffee beans, etc .;

5. Others: yeast, edible starch, etc.

However, for foods with a high content of single nutrients and a large impact on the daily intake of nutrients, such as fermented bean curd, pickles (sauerkraut), soy sauce, sauces (yellow sauce, meat sauce, hot sauce, bean paste, etc.) and compound Seasonings, etc., should be labeled with nutrition labels.

The most misunderstood thing here is drinks and alcohol, not drinks and alcohol, but drinks. Beverages are absolutely prepackaged foods, especially carbonated drinks, which often make people drink a lot of sugar and salt unconsciously, and must have a nutrition label.
