Dr. Meng Yuezhong of Guangzhou Institute of Chemistry and others have been working on the research of "efficiently catalyzing CO2 synthesis of biodegradable plastics by nanotechnology" for several years. The principle is that CO2 and propylene oxide are copolymerized under the action of nano-supported catalysts at a certain temperature. Each gram of catalyst in the laboratory can catalyze 120-140 grams of CO2, and the content of CO2 per ton of new plastic reaches 42%. The plastics produced by this technology can be produced by common processes and can be processed into beverage bottles, fast food lunch boxes, agricultural films, etc. The project has reached the international advanced level.
According to the relevant person in charge of the Guangzhong Enterprise Group, the pilot test of this project can be completed quickly, and industrialization can be implemented after a detailed industrialization plan is formulated. Due to the high efficiency of this plastic synthesis and reduced costs, it is expected to enter the market at a price of 20,000 yuan/ton, which is much lower than the current market price of 35,000 yuan/ton for biodegradable plastics, and it is highly competitive. The extensive use of its strengths in the production of petrochemical machinery and equipment and the strength of integrated equipment research and development are complementary to the advantages formed by Guangzhou Chemical Industry, which is conducive to accelerating the process of industrialization of this achievement.
