Hitachi Notebook Hard Drive G-Table Damage Failure:
The hard drive powers on, but it is not detected or recognized by the system.
Data Recovery Solution:
We connect the faulty drive to the PC3000-UDMA card and launch the main program.

In the first image, we see a green light that remains on, indicating the drive is ready. However, when selecting the corresponding Hitachi series and double-clicking, a dialog box appears stating that the hard drive ID cannot be read, meaning the model is not recognized. To proceed, we force the program to enter manually.

Looking at the top-left corner of the screen, we can see the status bar showing the hard disk's information. Unfortunately, the model, serial number, and firmware version are not recognized. So, we manually select the correct series and force the program to move forward.

Based on the symptoms, we suspect a firmware issue. We check all the firmware modules and review the module list as shown in the image above.

After automatic detection, the program highlights different modules in various colors. Green modules are normal, while others may indicate issues. Not all problematic modules require fixing—some are optional and do not affect data recovery. However, the RDMT module shown in yellow is critical, as it relates to the G-table error. This is the first module we need to fix before proceeding with recovery.
As seen in the image, there are three identical RDMT modules: RDMT0, RDMT1, and RDMT F. These are backups of each other, with RDMT F being a factory backup that users cannot modify. RDMT0 and RDMT1, however, can be edited. Our approach is to replace the content of RDMT1 with that of RDMT0.

We click on the RDMT1 module to view its contents and copy the data into RDMT0. After saving, we power off the drive and re-enter the main program.

Once the drive is powered back on, it quickly becomes ready, and the system recognizes the model and capacity correctly. This confirms that the issue was caused by a corrupted G-table. After some time, the data recovery is complete.
Through extensive practice, we've found that G-table errors in Hitachi hard drives are quite common. If you're unsure about the nature of the problem, avoid making any changes to the original drive and refrain from writing new data. Instead, consult a professional data recovery service. This approach not only increases the success rate but also improves efficiency and ensures the best possible outcome for your data.
