One of the girls' favorite activities this past month has been watching real chicks hatch. They were incredibly lucky to get up close and personal with the process, and it truly fascinated them. It was amazing to see how the eggs slowly cracked open and the tiny chicks emerged, squawking and wiggling their way into the world.
I have to admit, I was just as excited as the kids. There was something so special about hearing those little cheeps coming from inside the eggs and seeing the first signs of cracks forming. It felt like a magical moment every time we watched them grow closer to hatching.
After a few days in the incubator, the chicks finally arrived, and they were absolutely adorable—fluffy, soft, and full of life. The girls couldn’t stop smiling as they observed their new feathered friends.
The experience was such a great inspiration for writing. That week, the girls were eager to complete their homework, which involved describing the chicks and sharing what it felt like to hold them. I even made the twins a fun pencil topper using an Easter chick and some strong glue.
It was really rewarding to see Rose, who usually takes a bit more encouragement, actually sit down and write without hesitation. The excitement of holding the chicks made all the difference.
I used some fantastic Hen Life Cycle Word Mats from Twinkl, which helped the girls get started with their writing. Charlotte loved it so much that she needed extra paper to keep going. It was wonderful to see her enthusiasm and creativity come through.
Molly was especially fond of the chick pencil toppers and asked me to make her a whole set. She wanted one for each of her pencils!
This is such a lovely activity to do around Easter, and it’s a great way to learn about the hen life cycle. It brings the whole family together and creates lasting memories.
