As of April 6, 2015, the Fuzhou Body Expo is preparing for a record-breaking event. With just 37 days until the opening, organizers are making final preparations, particularly in attracting a large and diverse audience. According to Wen Jia, deputy director of the Equipment Center's Exhibition Department, the total number of visitors is expected to rise steadily compared to last year’s Wuhan Sports Fair.
Wen explained that while the expo has seen consistent growth over the years, especially from cities like Chengdu to Beijing and then to Wuhan, the location of Fuzhou in the south may pose some challenges. Limited direct flights could affect attendance from distant regions. However, he remains optimistic, noting that Fujian is a major hub for sports equipment manufacturing, with 10% of exhibitors coming from the province. These local companies also bring in regional buyers, helping to offset any potential drop in numbers.
Additionally, the Fujian Provincial Government is showing strong support for the event. This year’s Fuzhou edition will coincide with the Youth Games, prompting the government to invite representatives from education, sports, and commerce sectors to attend and make purchases on-site. The recent State Council policy on revitalizing the national sports industry has further boosted interest among local buyers in Fujian.
On the domestic front, the organizing committee has focused on expanding registration channels. Previously reliant on paper invitations, they now use online bulk emails, SMS reminders, and even WeChat and mobile registration options. This strategy aims to increase pre-registration rates and build a professional audience database for better data management. Li Hua, vice chairman of the China Sporting Goods Industry Federation, emphasized the importance of leveraging user data to offer personalized services in the future.
The expo is becoming more professional, with a stronger focus on data analysis. Wen Jia noted that this shift allows for more informed decision-making and improved planning. As competition among Chinese sports exhibitions intensifies, the Fuzhou Body Expo continues to evolve by learning from others, resulting in more effective audience recruitment efforts.
Regarding international visitors, Lou Dunping, an overseas audience representative, shared that the expo faced some challenges in attracting foreign attendees. Economic difficulties in Europe and the closure of several international exhibition search engines created obstacles. Despite this, the team managed to promote the event effectively, and early registration numbers look promising. Many Fujian-based exhibitors have established connections with distributors in Japan, South Korea, and Southeast Asia, which helps maintain a steady flow of international visitors.
To enhance the experience for overseas guests, the organizing committee offers hotel accommodations and invites them to exclusive trade events. A translation service is also provided, and all signage in the exhibition area will be available in both Chinese and English. These efforts reflect the growing professionalism and global reach of the Fuzhou Body Expo.
