The Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry of Japan is currently organizing the development of new technologies for the use of ozone to treat waste water. It plans to build a practical device in 2005.
Japanese technicians discovered that the high concentration of ozone is sent to the waste water tank, the difficult-to-decompose organic substances such as dioxins in the waste water will become easily degraded, which can increase the processing capacity of the microorganism during the aeration process and reduce the volume of the sludge. This improves processing efficiency and saves energy. The Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry has estimated that using this new method, it can decompose and remove about 90% of hazardous chemical substances that are difficult to decompose in wastewater. Compared with existing wastewater treatment plants, it can save nearly 50% of energy.
