Hi friends! I can't believe my little guy is almost one! It's been such an emotional journey watching him grow from a tiny newborn to the curious, giggly baby he is now. Honestly, I didn’t love the newborn stage at all—sleep deprivation got the best of me, and I was a hormonal mess. I remember going to my two-week postpartum appointment, nursing my baby with no clothes on from the waist down, still recovering (ouch), and completely exhausted. All it took was my doctor asking how I was doing… and I totally lost it. I thought I had postpartum depression, but she just said the first two weeks are a hot mess and that I was probably just sleep-deprived. She told me to give it a few weeks and check back. Looking back, that day brings back so many emotions.
The newborn phase wasn’t kind to me at all. I struggled more than I’d like to admit. I had this vision that I’d be floating in newborn bliss, soaking in cuddles all day. While I did love the snuggles, I was ready to fast forward through that stage! Sleep deprivation and I don’t mix well. Ha!
Since I’ve been reminiscing about when Hudson was a baby, I thought it would be fun to share my favorite newborn products with you! It’s funny how you buy so much when you’re expecting, especially as a first-time mom, and then realize you don’t actually need half of it. All the products below were ones I used over and over during the newborn stage and I 10/10 recommend them!
---
**Hatch Baby Sound Machine**: We love our Hatch and use it every single day! In the beginning, I wasn’t sure how to incorporate it into Hudson’s routine, but I loved the different colored lights. We used the red light at night for diaper changes at 2 am because I learned in the Taking Cara Babies class that it’s not great to expose your baby to bright lights during middle-of-the-night feeds. We use it for naps and bedtime, and the Bluetooth control is a huge plus. I recommend this to all my expecting friends, and I know we’ll use it for years to come!
**Copper Pearl Car Seat Cover**: This car seat cover is a total win—it doubles as a nursing cover! They have so many colors and prints, and we loved using it to keep Hudson covered in public. Everyone always wanted to check him out, so this was super handy!
**Taking Cara Babies Newborn Course**: This isn’t a product, but I couldn’t talk about newborn favorites without mentioning it. I bought the “Will I Ever Sleep Again†course when Hudson was three weeks old and watched it in a day—I was desperate for some sleep! The no-cry method and flexibility really helped me understand newborn sleep schedules. I still refer back to her blog today!
**Copper Pearl Swaddle Blanket**: I didn’t realize there were better swaddles than regular muslin blankets until I tried these. I bought so many muslins thinking I’d use them, but they didn’t work. I ordered two more from Amazon the first week!
**Gathre Changing Mat**: These mats are cute, thin, and easy to clean. We still use ours today, and the rainbow print is adorable!
**Solly Baby Wrap**: Wearing Hudson in this wrap gave me all the feels! It was perfect for those early days when he needed to be close or when I needed my hands free. Super soft and easier to use than I expected!
**SwaddleMe Wraps**: We tried several brands, but these were our favorites. The Velcro isn’t too loud, and they’re easy to use—even for my husband!
**GouMimitts Baby Mitts**: These are the only mittens that stay on! The Velcro works, and they’re made from organic bamboo and cotton. Win-win!
**Snuggle Me Organic Lounger**: I used this a lot during naps, but never for unsupervised sleep. It was helpful for placing Hudson safely when we were awake and watching him.
**My Brest Friend Nursing Pillow**: If you're breastfeeding, this is a game-changer! It’s way better than the Boppy for support, especially in the early days. The buckle and machine-washable cover are amazing. I can’t say enough good things about it!
I hope this was helpful if you're a new mama or expecting another baby! What are your favorite newborn products? Let me know in the comments!
-xoxo, M.
