Concrete structures on track and field facilities are typically small in size and spread out across the site. Before pouring concrete, it's essential to prepare the construction area properly. This includes ensuring that access roads are clear, power supply systems are fully functional, electric gates are operational, and vibration equipment is ready for use. These preparations help ensure a smooth and efficient pouring process.
When transporting concrete, it should be covered tightly in transport vehicles, ideally using a concrete mixer to maintain consistency. When pouring into molds, start from the lowest point, such as the bottom of an obstacle pool for a 3000m running track. Pour in layers, with the first layer not exceeding 40 cm in height. After pouring, use a vibrating poker to compact the concrete. The distance between vibrators should not exceed 1.5 times their working radius. Be careful not to hit the side forms or let rebar come into contact with them. The distance between the vibrator and the formwork should be kept between 50 and 100 mm. The vibrator should be inserted into the lower layer by 50–100 mm. When lifting the vibrator, do so slowly to avoid creating voids in the concrete. Each section must be vibrated thoroughly until the concrete stops sinking, bubbles stop rising, and the surface becomes smooth. It’s important to avoid leaving the vibrator in one spot for too long, as this can cause separation of mortar and aggregates within the mix.
After pouring, the concrete needs to be properly cured to prevent cracking caused by temperature fluctuations, wind, and sunlight exposure. This is especially important during the early stages when the concrete is still setting.
During the pouring process, a dedicated staff member should be present to monitor the concrete quality and ensure that all procedures are followed correctly. This helps maintain the structural integrity and durability of the final product.
