On September 16, 2013, the inaugural meeting and the first working meeting of the revised drafting group of the national standard GB18107-2000 "Redwood" was held in Beijing. The conference was co-sponsored by the National Timber Standardization Technical Committee and the Institute of Wood Industry of the Chinese Academy of Forestry.
The deputy director of the National Timber Standardization Technical Committee, Ye Kelin, director of the Institute of Timber Industry of the Chinese Academy of Forestry, and Zhao Zhiqiang, deputy mayor of Dongyang City, Zhejiang Province, attended the meeting. Lv Bin, assistant to the director of the Institute of Timber Industry of the Chinese Academy of Forestry, presided over Opening ceremony. More than 70 representatives from 46 participating organizations of mahogany enterprises, research institutes, universities, quality inspection organizations and industry associations from all over the country participated in the conference.
At the meeting, Director Ye Kelin delivered a speech on behalf of the National Timber Standardization Technical Committee. He hoped that the revision work should widely listen to the opinions of all sectors of the society. In accordance with the new situation and new requirements, he carefully summarized and analyzed the experience of the national standard "Redwood" for 13 years and improved the national standard. The scientific, advanced and feasible of Redwood is fully committed to the revision of this standard. The Deputy Secretary-General of the National Timber Standardization Technical Committee, Mr. Yan Huaqiang, announced the revision of the drafting group.
The researcher of the national standard "Redwood" revision project, Yin Yafang, first introduced the revised background of the national standard "Redwood" and proposed the revision plan and implementation arrangements. Subsequently, each participating unit represents a group discussion, focusing on the definition of redwood, the range of redwood species, the classification of redwoods, the necessary conditions and methods of determination of redwoods, the international/domestic legal information related to redwood species, and the macroscopic and microstructural maps of redwoods. I made a number of comments and suggestions. The meeting also confirmed that the second revision group work meeting will be held in Dongyang, Zhejiang in early November 2013.
The revision of the national standard "Redwood" will help promote the healthy development of the rosewood consumer market and play a more important role in promoting the healthy development of the rosewood industry.
