Entertainment Center Build (Part 2)

It's been quite some time since my last post here at the entertainment center, but life has been bustling with various side projects. Recently, I launched a new website and blog platform, which kept me occupied. However, that’s no excuse—I’ve also been diligently working on this ambitious project! In the previous update, I began breaking down the materials for the casework and preparing them for assembly. Once the basic structure of the cases was put together, I milled some pine boards to create shiplap backs for the cabinets. These backs simply slide into grooves on the rear of the cases without any glue involved. Additionally, I attached the trim to the front of the cases using glue and finish nails. With the shiplap backs securely in place, I clamped all the cases together to get a preview of how everything would look once fully assembled. One crucial aspect of this build is that it needs to be easily disassembled into three main sections, meaning nothing can be permanently glued. After gaining a clearer vision of the assembled case, my focus shifted to the two sliding barn doors that will serve as the front. With the cabinet temporarily assembled, I took precise measurements to construct the doors. They’re straightforward to make—they're just solid pine—but the tricky part lies in aligning the angles correctly on the crossbeams. Luckily, I found some old, rusted nails that add a nice aesthetic touch to the doors. Next up, I’ll need to hang the doors properly to ensure alignment and functionality. Then, I'll install the final trim molding across the top and bottom. After that, it'll be time for the finishing touches. For this project, I won’t be handling the finishing myself—instead, the cases will be painted with milk paint, while the doors will receive a clear finish. --- The process of building this entertainment center has been both challenging and rewarding. Each step requires precision and patience, but seeing it come together gives immense satisfaction. The shiplap backs and sliding doors add a rustic charm that I believe will make this piece stand out. While the actual construction is nearing completion, there’s still work left to do before it’s fully functional. Hanging the doors correctly is critical, and ensuring they glide smoothly will take some fine-tuning. I’m confident that with a bit more effort, the end result will be something I can proudly display. I hope this update provides a glimpse into the progress I've made. Stay tuned for the next phase where I’ll share how the doors are installed and how the final touches bring this project to life. Until then, thanks for following along! --- As an aside, working on this project has reminded me of the importance of balancing personal ambitions with creative endeavors. It’s easy to get caught up in new ventures, but taking the time to complete older projects keeps things grounded. This entertainment center isn’t just a piece of furniture—it represents dedication and craftsmanship, qualities I strive to maintain in all my work.
