I’ve noticed that Molly has really taken a liking to playing noughts and crosses lately. It’s such a simple yet engaging game, perfect for passing the time when you’re waiting around. I decided to make her a fun and themed lunchbox inspired by the game.
When I opened the lunchbox, it was an instant hit! The shapes were created using a round cookie cutter for the noughts, while the crosses were carefully cut out with a sharp knife. I even drew a grid on a piece of flatbread using Marmite to mimic the game board.
The contents inside were a mix of snacks and treats:
- Hoops and Crosses crisps, naturally.
- Cheese spread paired with ham rolled up in flatbread, where I drew the grid lines using Marmite for a pop of flavor.
- Cucumber slices shaped into crosses.
- Cheese slices for the noughts.
- Strawberry slices mimicking the noughts.
- Apple slices carved into crosses.
- A small container of yogurt as a refreshing side.
To add an extra touch, I used a whiteboard pen to draw a noughts and crosses grid directly onto the lid of the lunchbox.
Molly absolutely loved her themed lunchbox, and it was clear she was excited to dig in. Not only did she enjoy eating, but she also seemed more motivated to practice her noughts and crosses skills. It’s been a great way to keep her entertained while teaching her the basics of the game.
Here’s a sneak peek of how it all came together:

I’m really happy with how it turned out, and it’s become one of her favorite meals. I also entered this creation into the Tots100 #HoopsandCrosses competition. Hoping it catches some attention!
As an added bonus, here’s another angle of the lunchbox:

It’s been a fun little project, and I think it’s a great way to combine food and play. Molly hasn’t stopped talking about her "special lunch," and I’m thrilled to see her enjoying both the meal and the game.
